Free Quilt Pattern

We have just put a free quilt pattern up on our website. This quick and easy quilt was designed by Christine Baker and Nellie Holmes. You can find the pattern by clicking on the "Free Pattern" link on my home page.

Please e-mail me if you would like to be added to the Upper Canada Quiltworks mailing list for our newsletters and free patterns.

FACC

Yesterday my FACC quilting group held an important meeting. The food was wonderful and in addition to discussing the many items on our agenda, we were able to watch the wild turkeys in Dyane's back yard.

Waterfront Re-visited

You may remember my daily photograph from January 23. Here it is:

Here are some pictures of the same area, taken yesterday, June 25. Now you can see our beautiful waterfront area. Maybe summer is finally here!

Tall Ships Landing

There is a new condominium building to be constructed on the waterfront in Brockville. The model unit is spectacular. If I win the lottery some day, I may be able to live there.

The company has an excellent web site and if you click here you will see a very nice slide show of the area in which I live. I noticed, however, that there are no pictures taken in the winter - the season that lasts for 5 months and is cold and snowy and icy!

Sculpture at the ByWard Market

This amazing sculpture hangs above the ByWard Market floor in Ottawa. It is called McClintock's Dream and was created by Victor Tolgesy in 1978. It is made of paper mache, wood and acrylic paint.

More from the ByWard Market: Beaver Tails

A Beaver Tail is a sweet pastry, that is essentially a flat doughnut with sugar on top. They also come with a chocolate or butterscotch topping. This is probably the most popular stand at the ByWard Market - there is always a long line-up. You can find a recipe for this Ottawa delicacy here.

Byward Market in Ottawa

Established by Lt-Col. John By in 1826, the ByWard Market in Ottawa is one of Canada's oldest and largest public markets. The legendary builder of the Rideau Canal, Colonel By, laid out the street plan of the Market. Within an area roughly four blocks square, you'll find museums, cafés, specialty food shops, boutiques, galleries, and restaurants.

Here are a few pictures taken at this very busy area.

Don't you love the colour?

Trend-Tex Show in Vancouver #1

Here are some pictures of my neighbours at the Trend-Tex show in Vancouver.

Brenda Miller (Among Brenda's Quilts) from Strathroy, Ontario. Brenda has a wonderful line of tote bag patterns. Be sure to have a look at them here.

Jenna and Daniella are from the Cozy Quilt Shop in southern California. They had wonderful patterns for the jelly rolls and layer cake fabrics. They also have a couple of great rulers to help you make their special quilts. Make sure you check out Daniela's story here.

Here is Tricia Sherman, producer of the Great Canadian Shop Hop, watching one of her own videos! Everyone really enjoyed watching the Shop Hop shows that were running continuously in Tricia's booth.

And here is my booth!

Back Home in Sunny and Hot Ontario

We are back home now and it is so nice to see some sunshine after a rainy, cool week in Vancouver.

All my daily photos from the past week have been posted here. Tomorrow I will add some information and lots of pictures from the Trend-Tex show in Vancouver

Good Morning from Surrey, BC

This is the last day of the Trend-Tex trade show. Many of the attendees will be travelling to the Trend-Tex warehouse today and then back to the show for some last minute shopping. Lots of excitement here about jelly rolls and layer cakes! More information and lots of pictures from the show will be on this blog after I return home tomorrow.

My friend, Tricia Sherman, producer of the Great Canadian Shop Hop, left the show early yesterday to catch a flight to England. She will only be there for 48 hours, but has packed a lot of activities into her short visit. Most importantly, she will meet up with her daughter who has been travelling in Europe for the last 3 weeks and then they will return to Vancouver together.

Can't wait to see those pictures of Tricia celebrating her birthday (which is today) in her favourite English Pub! Happy birthday Tricia!

"Califon" by Mark Lipinski for Northcott

I finally got to make something with this wonderful new fabric by Mark Lipinski, editor of Quilter's Home magazine. The fabric is being distributed by Northcott. You can see the whole line of this fabric here. This is a sample of my Little Picture Quilt #1. This little quilt has a "picture pocket" so you can change the picture whenever you like.

PS: Thanks, Mark, for mentioning my blog on your blog!

Here are some different views of my Little Picture Quilt.

Could this be a picture of Mark himself?

This is one of my "instant ancestor" pictures.

Don't you love the pigtails?
