A Quilt for an Olympian

Brockville, where I live, is a small city with a population of only 22,000. But in the last few years, we have sent several rowers to the Summer Olympics. This year, Conlin McCabe from Brockville will row for Canada in the Men's Eight.

My friend, Peggy, decided that Conlin had to have an Olympic quilt. She used my Champion Spirit pattern, originally designed using the Northcott Winter Olympic fabric. Peggy's sons and Conlin had rowed together during high school at the Brockville Rowing Club, so she had lots of pictures of the boys at various events.

I printed the pictures on fabric and Peggy sewed the quilt top. Delia did the embroidery at the top and bottom. Peggy then had Conlin's friends and family sign the quilt. The quilt top was delivered to Conlin last week, and he will be taking it to London with him.

Here are a few of the signatures that are on the quilt now. When Conlin returns to Brockville after the Olympics, the quilt will be finished and will include the signatures of his team mates and photos from the Games on the back.

Go for the Gold, Conlin!

So excited to be a small part of this effort. Hope it is the good luck charm that pushes all that hard work and training across the finish line for gold.

How wonderful for you to make this keepsake quilt for another Brockville Olympian. You were my music teacher at P.O.W. and now I have become a quilter, too!
